Coaching for Gifted Teen Athletes
Helping you understand yourself more clearly—and compete, respond, decide, and grow with greater steadiness and confidence.
"Athletic ability can create real opportunity. It can also make something you care about surprisingly complicated."
You may be fast, skilled, strong, coordinated, disciplined, or highly competitive. You may love your sport and still feel pressured by it. A mistake can stay with you. Feedback can feel personal. Playing time, rankings, injury, comparison, or the fear of letting people down can make it harder to use the ability you know you have.
You may want to pursue your sport seriously but feel that something keeps getting in the way. Or you may be unsure how much of your life you want to give to it—or whether the goal still feels fully your own.
This Is Not About Fixing You
Your athletic ability is part of who you are. It is not all of who you are.
It gives you a confidential, respectful place to slow things down and talk honestly about what your sport is really like for you. We work with real situations from your life: competition, practice, feedback, mistakes, playing time, injury, team dynamics, motivation, family conversations, identity, and decisions about the future.
What Coaching Can Help You Do
The work is shaped around what you are actually experiencing. Coaching may help you:
Understand what is driving pressure, perfectionism, frustration, avoidance, fear, or loss of confidence.
Communicate more clearly with parents, coaches, teammates, and other people who matter to you.
Stay steadier and more focused before, during, and after competition.
Make honest decisions about how seriously you want to pursue your sport and what place it should have in your life.
Hear and use feedback without shutting down, becoming defensive, or losing your sense of yourself.
Build confidence and an identity that are not completely dependent on results, rankings, playing time, scholarships, or recognition.
Recover more effectively from mistakes, losses, slumps, injuries, and disappointment.
How Meta-Skills Help
Knowing your sport and being able to use what you know when the moment matters are not always the same.
Meta-Skills help keep your attention, judgment, communication, and training available when pressure, emotion, uncertainty, or comparison might otherwise interfere.
Internal Awareness
Notice what is happening inside you before pressure, frustration, or self-doubt begins affecting how you perform.
Accurate Listening
Hear coaching and feedback accurately—even when it is difficult, unexpected, or not delivered perfectly.
Perspective Taking
Understand what a coach, teammate, or opponent may be seeing without losing your own judgment or voice.
Clear Communication
Communicate effectively with coaches and teammates—and recover, adjust, and reengage when things do not go as planned.
Steady Focus
Regain your attention when a mistake, bad call, opponent, or expectation pulls you away from the next moment.
Narrative Control
Separate one mistake or result from the story you begin telling yourself about your ability, progress, or future.
Decision Discipline
Make thoughtful decisions about preparation, commitments, relationships, recovery, and the direction you want to pursue.
A Confidential Coaching Relationship
Coaching is a confidential relationship.
What you share is not reported back to your parent.
If a parent check-in or joint conversation could help, we discuss it first and agree together on what, if anything, may be shared. The only exception is a rare, clear danger to you or someone else.
Professional Integrity
Building a foundation of trust that allows for honest exploration without fear of judgment or repercussions.
One-on-One Coaching
Private coaching focused on the situations you are facing—pressure, performance, feedback, confidence, motivation, communication, team relationships, identity, decisions, or direction.
A private space to think clearly, strengthen your judgment, and grow into who you want to be as an athlete and as a person.
Cohort Coaching
Small-group coaching with gifted teen athletes facing similar pressures and questions. It helps you see that you are not alone in dealing with comparison, perfectionism, performance pressure, self-doubt, team dynamics, or uncertainty.
